My initial brief for this project was to create a space that is comfortable, relaxing and a private environment so my client can prepare herself for bed and for the next day to put her makeup on to expose herself to the public. I wanted my space to be natural and pure and inflict a calming feel when entered. I feel like I was successful in achieving this. My room is simplistic yet has an astonishing feature wall that is stunning and harmonious creating a calming feeling. I liked the idea of using onyx as a feature to bring character to a simple room and bring it to life with colour and through the movement of the material. I also researched that onyx can be lit up from behind giving it a glow like appearance, and light can also be reflected off it. I wanted to incorporate a light behind it to show this glow so that light is present in the room when it is dark and natural light will be used through the window during the day. The shapes and movements created in the onyx show resemblance of water movement or ripples. I also chose blue onyx as a water resemblance. Onyx is a completely natural resource well suited for my clients room as I wanted to display a space made out of completely raw and natural materials to resemble the idea of cleansing and purifying, the feeling you get when washing your face.
I chose to only have one piece of furniture in the room because I wanted my space to purely represent cleansing your face. I feel if anything else was in the room it would distract and take away from the idea of cleaning, purifying and washing your face. My sink is made completely of raw materials of onyx, a repetition of my feature wall, and glass, repetition of my window. I wanted to show repetition throughout my room to symbolise the idea of ritual, a reoccurring event, which is exactly what my client displays every night when washing her face. My sink looks very modern and displays only natural materials. The water flow into my sink comes form above like a waterfall shower head. The water from above will create a trickling rainfall noise creating relaxing sounds.
Lastly I have a large glass window that is textured into a pattern that reflects the shapes and moments of the onyx feature wall. This repetition continues the idea of ritual but also keeps the harmonious movements within the room. Because the window is textured, you would not be able to clearly see in or out. I chose to show this to resemble my idea of publicity and privacy. I wanted my room to be a private space where my client can feel comfortable in her own skin. I have shown the idea of publicity by allowing exposure through natural light to come into the room. This is how i have represented the idea of privacy and publicity.
Through my ideas and thoughts I feel like I have reached my brief and created a calm, relaxing room where my client can feel comfortable to cleanse and refresh her face.
