Response to partners ritual

My partners Ritual was her daily routine of washing her face at night before she goes to bed. My partners video document was very fun and gave an energetic feel as she showed her step by step routine to washing her face. Here are my drawing responses to her ritual.

Draw the ritual

I took to drawing the ritual very literally. I drew my partners ritual in the three steps she used. Firstly the facial scrub when it has been poured out of the bottle, then as the stub starts to foam up while it's being massaged onto the face then a splash of water as the wash is being rinsed off. 

How did it make you feel?

Watching my partners video was very relatable to me as I too wash my face daily but I do it in the morning. So I showed the way it made me feel though my own thoughts of how it feels to wash my face in the morning. I started with a dark blue scribble as I wake up in the morning and feel horrible. The colour changing shows how I feel through the process of washing my face, I showed this through using cooler colours then moving in to a warm colour of yellow. I then drew a yellow circle to show how I feel refreshed, happy and ready for the day once I have washed my face. It makes me feel awake. 

What shape does it evoke?  

I felt like a circle was an appropriate shape that evoked my partners ritual of face washing as I relate washing my face to feeling refreshed and happy. I also chose a circle because of the movements and shapes that were formed during the process of washing your face in the video. The scrub is squeezed onto her hand and creates a circular shape, the movements of massaging the scrub onto her face are performed in circular motions and my partner cupped her hands to create a circle bowl shape to rinse the scrub off.  

What atmosphere does the ritual give (cool/warm)?

I choose to draw a set of bubbles to show the type of atmosphere the ritual gave. I feel like the ritual was warm and bubbly because the music that backed the video gave a happy and fun feeling which iterated that my partner enjoys washing her face. The lightening in the video was light which also gave a nice feel to the video. 

How did you interpret it? 

As it is shown through my drawing I found it difficult yo move away from a literal take. My drawing shows the scrub foaming up and water being washed over it giving off splashing effects. 

Colour

I used a peachy/pink colour which was the colour of the scrubbed used in the video but I also chose it because this colour shows the feel of the video, how I feel when I wash my face and it's also a nice, warm, happy colour.
